Part of XUSOM’s mission is to make quality medical education more affordable. Currently, we are proud to offer 11 different Scholarship opportunities!

All of the following terms must be met in order to receive and maintain any Scholarship:

  1. Must be entering Xavier University in the first year of Basic Sciences (MD1-MD3).
  2. Must have continuous enrollment.
  3. Must maintain satisfactory academic progression at the discretion of the Chief Academic Officer.
  4. No disciplinary actions of any sort while a student of XUSOM.
  5. Student must reside at on-campus housing during Basic Science semesters.
  6. Tuition must be fully paid by the due date.

Any additional terms will be listed below. Scholarships may be rescinded if terms are not met, and the student will be responsible for full tuition. Awards are disbursed in the Student Management System as a credit toward your tuition.

Scholarship offers are at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee, and the committee reserves the right to approve or deny a student for any reason.

Scholarships Students Can Apply For

About the MCAT Scholarship: At Xavier, we understand that not everyone is a natural “test-taker,” so we do not require the MCAT for admissions. Throughout your time with us, we will help you become comfortable with taking medical exams during your studies! In the meantime, we want to recognize students who have taken the initiative to write the MCAT. The value of the scholarship will be dictated by the exam score at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee and Chief Academic Officer.

Award Amount: Between $15,000-$30,000

Additional Eligibility Requirements:
– Students who have taken the MCAT before enrolling at XUSOM
– Must have a minimum MCAT score of 494 to qualify

About the Women In Stem Scholarship: XUSOM is a proud supporter of increasing gender inclusivity in the medical field. With this scholarship, we hope to help lessen the gap between males and females working in the STEM field.

Award Amount: $24,000 – $48,000

Eligibility Requirements (must meet all):
– Women who earned a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics
– Must have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher

About the Congressman John Lewis Equality Memorial Scholarship: Congressman John Lewis stood to fight inequities in all aspects of his life. This scholarship is offered to students that come from under-represented minority groups.

Award Amount: $66,000

Eligibility Requirements (must meet all):
– Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident
– Must be classified as an under-represented minority (African-American, Native American, or Hispanic-American)
– Must have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher

About the NY State University Scholarship: At XUSOM we are committed to our students having a comprehensive global experience as patients come from all parts of the world with all sorts of background. As we celebrate our NY state accreditation, we would like to offer a scholarship to all residents of New York State who matriculated from a NY State University or College (SUNY/CUNY/Community College).

Award Amount: $12,000 – $24,000

Eligibility Requirements:
– NY residents who have studied at a New York State University School (SUNY/CUNY/Community college)
or
– NY residents who complete their Pre-Med courses at XUSOM (eligible upon entrance to MD1)
– Must have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher

About the Civic Duty Scholarship: XUSOM encourages its graduates to give back to the community in all ways that they can. This Scholarship is awarded to students who have shown unparalleled commitment through service in their community’s hospitals, nursing homes, or charities.

Award Amount: $18,000 – $36,000

Eligibility Requirements:
– Must demonstrate how you have shown unparalleled commitment through service in your community

About the Medical Field Work Experience Scholarship: XUSOM understands that career plans and paths change. We would like to provide an opportunity to people already working in the medical field to take the next step and start medical school.

Award Amount: $18,000 – $36,000

Eligibility Requirements:
– Students who are already working in the medical field in a hands-on setting (including, but not limited to, nurses, physician assistants, emergency medical technicians, etc).
– Must have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher

About the Veterans Scholarship: XUSOM is very thankful to all of our veterans. We would like to provide an opportunity to those who have served in the U.S. and Canadian military.

Award Amount: $36,000

Eligibility Requirements:
– Must have served in the any branch of the U.S. or Canadian Military within the past 7 years
– Must be a U.S. or Canadian Resident

About the MD6 Transfer Scholarship: XUSOM welcomes transfers for the MD6 semester, and wants to assist with making medical school as affordable as possible as they prepare for taking the USMLE Step 1 Exam.

Award Amount: $1,000 – $4,000 (available for the MD6 semester only)

Eligibility Requirements:
– Must be transferred from another medical school into XUSOM for the MD6 semester
– Scale based upon past grades in previous medical school and official NBME and CBSE scores
– Transfer GPA must be a minimum of 3.0

Scholarships Students Will Be Considered For

About the Presidential Excellence Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to a select group of qualified students in each incoming class.

Award Amount: $72,000

Eligibility Requirements (must meet all):
– 
Hold an undergraduate U.S. Bachelor’s degree or Canadian equivalent (students who complete their Pre-Med courses at XUSOM are eligible upon entrance to MD1)
– Pre-requisite and undergraduate GPA of 3.5 or above from a U.S. or Canadian University
– MCAT score of 504 or above

Additional Scholarship Terms:
– Must maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA while completing their degree at XUSOM

About the Chancellor’s Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to a select group of qualified students in each incoming class.

Award Amount: $54,000

Eligibility Requirements (must meet all):
– Hold an undergraduate U.S. Bachelor’s degree or Canadian equivalent (students who complete their Pre-Med courses at XUSOM are eligible upon entrance to MD1)
– Pre-requisite and undergraduate GPA of 3.25 or above from a U.S. or Canadian University
– MCAT score of 500 or above

Additional Scholarship Terms:
– Must maintain a 3.25 cumulative GPA while completing their degree at XUSOM

About the Dean’s Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to a select group of qualified students in each incoming class.

Award Amount: $12,000 – $24,000

Awarded to deserving and qualified students.
